AA TOURNAMENT
The Chiefs opened up the Father's Day Tournament with a dominating 11-2 victory over Kuna. Brady Messenbrink pitched all 7 innings giving up just 5 hits and no earned runs. The Chiefs had 11 hits led by Luke Marks who had three hits including a triple, Saxton Poll who had two singles and two RBI's and Ryan Romero who had two hits and an RBI.
In the second game, the Chiefs beat a historically tough Bonneville Bees team 3-2, behind a strong pitching performance by Kyler Wells. While only throwing 72 pitches, he scattered 6 hits, had 4 strike outs and no earned runs. The Chiefs scored two runs in the top of the 1st off a two run single by Ryan Romero, then scored in the top of the 7th off a leadoff walk and stolen base by Kraig Davidson, who advanced to third on a fielders choice, then scored on a fielders choice by Luke Marks.
The Chiefs improved their tourney record to 3-0 by defeating a Jerome Cyclones team that would not quit. The Chiefs built a 6-0 lead before fending off the Cyclones the last two innings and coming away with a 6-5 victory. Tanner Lupton earned the win pitching 6 2/3 innings before giving away to Ryan Romero who struck out the last batter with the tying run on second. Romero earned the save. Lupton had 7 strikeouts in the outing. At the plate, the Chiefs had just 6 hits, let by Kraig Davidson with two, and Danny Myers, Ryan Romero, Kyler Wells and Chase Liljegren each with one. Lupton caused a lot of ground balls as defensively, Wells had 8 assists at shortstop.
In a game marred by poor weather, the Chiefs defeated the Meridian Rangers 14-4 in five innings. Nate Forseth made his first start of the year, going 4 innings and earning the win. He gave up just one earned run in the start. The Chiefs scored 14 runs on just 8 hits. They were led by Zach Treinen's two singles and four RBI's, and Kenny Redfeldt's two run single.
In the Sunday game, which fittingly matched up the two undefeated teams of the tournament, the Chiefs rewarded their dad's and fans on Father's Day by defeating the Boise Seminoles 5-0 in a well played game by both teams. Ryan Romero had an outstanding game on the mound, hurling a three hit shutout to earn the victory. Romero also had 5 strikeouts, no runner advance past second base and he was backed up by a superb defense which committed no errors. Offensively the Chiefs had just 5 hits,a single and double by Luke Marks, a double by Kyler Wells, and singles by Tanner Lupton and Kameron Battles.
Great tournament for the Chiefs by coaches and players with everyone contributing to the wins. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the tournament possible and to all the fans for coming out to support the victorious Chiefs!
