Chiefs lose a heartbreaker! The Nampa Chiefs lost their opening game to the Meridian Rangers by a score of 3-1. Josh Davidson and Mike Meservy pitched great against the Rangers, but the opposition was able to manufacture 3 runs while only having 1 hit in the game. The Chiefs also only had one hit, a bunt single by Tim Ryan, and although challenged a couple of times could not plate more than 1 run. It was truly a pitchers duel and although they lost the game, they played hard to end end having the tying runs on base in the last inning but unable to plate them. Good luck Chiefs!
The Chiefs were rained out yesterday at Centennial and the game has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 13th @ 1:00 PM at Centennial High.
The Chiefs drop at close one at the Boise Gems. The Chiefs battled the Gems hard but came out on the losing end of an 11-10 ballgame. The Chiefs, down 9-6 entering the top of the 7th, plated four runs to go ahead 10-9 on a pinch hit single by Slammin Sammy Cook. But the Gems won the game on a walk off two run homer in the bottom of the 7th. The Chiefs were led by Ryan "Cup" Kaltenbach's three hits and two more by Mitchell O'dell.
Chiefs lost to the Mtn. View Toros in another close one 4-1. Stu Beswick pitched well enough to win the game, but the Chiefs were unable to provide much run support due to some excellent pitching by the Rangers' starter. The Chiefs were led by Josh Sukeena who had two hits, and drove in the Chiefs lone score with an RBI single.
Chiefs win their first game of the season 8-4 over the Mtn. View Toros behind the excellent pitching of David Nicodemus, the hitting of Jared Coordes, and some excellent field play especially by centerfielder Karsten Robison who tracked down a number of long balls. Josh Davidson earned the save with two scoreless innings in relief. Way to go Chiefs!
Chiefs drop one to Columbia 12-2. Although garnering 9 hits the Chiefs couldnt string enough together to score many runs. The Chiefs were led by Josh Davidson, David Nicodemus, and Sam Cook who each had two hits.
Chiefs lose to Eagle by a score of 12-0 in a 5 inning, shortened game. The Chiefs were unable to generate any offense and were able to garner only 1 hit against the Eagle pitcher, a single by Tim Ryan.
Chiefs battled back from a 6-0 deficit to come within 7-5 against the Meridian Rangers, but a late rally by the Rangers decided the game. The Chiefs were led at the plate by David Nicodemus and Josh Sukeena with a double and single each, and by Jared Coordes' two hits including a line drive home run to left field!
Chiefs came up short against Centennial 12-2. Some critical errors allowed Centennial to pull away after a close game early. The Chiefs were led by Brent Mehling's two hits and Jared Coordes' second home run of the season!
Chiefs defeated the Rocky Mountain Avalanche 10-5 behind some excellent pitching by Josh Davidson. Josh scattered six hits and used the strikeout and some excellent defense to get out of jams. The Chiefs were led by Jared Coordes, Josh Sukeena, and Nick Hinrichsen who each had a double and a single, and Brent Mehling who contributed three hits, including a double and two singles, to the Chiefs' win!
Chiefs use the long ball to do battle with Redding California Rattlers. The Chiefs came up short in a see saw battle with the Rattlers 13-10 at the Kennewick Bandit Bash. The Chiefs got home runs from Mitchell O'dell, Josh Sukeena, and Sam Cook to stay close in the contest. Josh Davidson, Sam Cook, Mitch O'dell, and Karsten Robison all had two hits as the Chiefs came back from a 4-1 deficit to take the lead 6-4. The Rattlers jumped back up 8-6 in the 5th, then the Chiefs tied it 8-8 in the top of the 6th. Down 13-8 entering the top of the 7th, the Chiefs plated two to make the game interesting, but couldn't score again. In all, the Chiefs banged out 11 hits.
The Chiefs fought hard in each contest, but went 0-5 at the Kennewick Bandit Bash. In addition to the game above the Chiefs lost to the Kennewick Bandits 5-4. Leading 4-1 with one out, no one on in the bottom of the 7th, Mitchel O'Dell was cruising on the mound, but the Bandits scored 4 in the bottom of the 7th to win. The Chiefs were led by Karsten Robison and Josh Davidson with two hits each. The Chiefs outfielders were particularly spectacular in this game especially Luke Austin, the right fielder, who chased down a number of tough fly balls.
The Chiefs lost the remaining three games of the tournament but every game was close. They lost 4-2 to Olympia, WA as they were able to garner only three hits in support of David Nicodemus who pitched well enough to win. They lost 7-2 to the Walla Walla Bears although the game was tied 2-2 late. The Chiefs had 5 hits. In the last game the Chiefs lost 5-1 to the Spokane North Stars, while getting four hits, including a home run by Sam Cook. The Chiefs faced some tough competition with each opponent having six or more returning college players, but were in every game. An opposing coach told Coach Bobo that our record was not indicative of the talent on our team and all the Chiefs fans at the tournament would echo that sentiment!
The Chiefs dropped a game 5-3 to the hard hitting undefeated Treasure Valley Stars, but the Stars knew they were in a ballgame. Stu Beswick pitched a gem and surrendered only five hits. The Chiefs mounted a comeback after being down 5-0 to get the game to within two and had the tying runs on base in the final inning.
Chiefs battle back from a 9-0 deficit to grab a win against the Boise Capitals! Karsten Robison started the hit parade with a three run bomb to left field to narrow the gap. In the bottom of the sixth, the Chiefs scored 8 runs to go up 11-10 which was the final score. The Chiefs were led at the plate by David Nicodemus with a double and a home run, Luke Austin with a double and a single, Josh Sukeena with a double and a single, and Karsten Robison with another hit to accompany the home run. David Nicodemus picked up the win with three innings of brilliant relief!
Chiefs win again! The Chiefs defeated the Eagle Vipers 7-3 behind the superb pitching of Josh Davidson. Josh struck out 11 Vipers and pitched the entire nine innings in a gutsy effort. The Chiefs were able to manufacture seven runs while having only six hits. They were led at the plate by Mitchell O'Dell with a two run double and Sam Cook who chipped in with two hits, including a double.
The Chiefs won their 3rd game in a row over the Caldwell Silver Streaks! Behind the savvy pitching of Brent Mehling, the Chiefs won 10-4. Brent kept the Streaks off balance during the entire game with a mix of fastballs and breaking pitches while pitching a complete game. The Chiefs were led at the plate by Sam Cook with a double and two singles, and Josh Sukeena with 2 doubles and a single and three RBIs.
The Chiefs ran into a buzzsaw in the second game of a double header against the Caldwell Silver Streaks. The Chiefs' bats were silenced by a bevy of Streaks' lefthanders. Karsten Robison was the only Chief to have success with two hits in the contest.
The Chiefs dropped a game to the Boise Seminoles 7-3. The Chiefs had eight hits, but couldn't string anything together as the Seminoles took an early lead that they never relinquished. The Chiefs were led at the plate by Josh Davidson with three hits.
Both Josh Davidson and Brent Mehling pitched well in the Chiefs 6-5 nine inning loss to the Columbia Mudcats. Neither team scored over the last four innings of play. The Chiefs had many opportunities but couldn't get the big hit when needed. The Chiefs also had some challenges with the sacrifice bunt which also hurt our chances. The Chiefs were led by Karsten Robison with three hits, Brent Mehling with two hits and three RBIs, and Josh Sukeena and Mitchell O'Dell with two hits each.
David Nicodemus pitched a great game and gave way to Mitch O'Dell who also pitched well, but the Chiefs couldn't muster much offense as they fell to the Boise Senators 3-1. Stu Beswick and Karsten Robinson led the Chiefs with two singles each.
The Chiefs staffed it up against the Rocky Mt Avalanche going with four different pitchers but lost 10-1 in a 9 inning contest. The Chiefs only garnered five hits including a double by Sam Cook and a triple by Mitch O'Dell.
Playing six games in four days is never easy on a pitching staff but Coach Bobo masterfully managed his staff as the Chiefs took 5th place in the Pepsi Summer Classic held at Borah and Capital High Schools. The Chiefs lost the first game 8-2 to a steady Madison team. They then reeled off four straight victories, defeating Reno 5-4; Utah 9-8; Silver State 11-6; and Butte 16-11, ending up 4-1 in pool play. However, with one 5-0 team, and a total of four 4-1 teams, the Chiefs were awarded the 5th seed based on runs allowed and advanced into final day play. The Chiefs opponent in the game was our cross town rival Columbia Mudcats who had beaten us twice this year. With the Chiefs down 5-0 in the 5th inning and the Mudcat pitcher throwing a perfect game, the Chiefs got the bats going and scored six runs in the bottom of the 5th. They added two more in the bottom of the 6th, then held the Mudcats in check to win the game and garner the fifth place trophy. With five wins in a row, the Chiefs are on a roll and peaking at the right time with District Playoffs starting at the end of the week!
Chiefs win sixth in a row! The Chiefs defeated the Boise Barons 3-0 behind some excellent pitching by Brent Mehling and Stu Beswick, who combined to toss the Chiefs' first shutout of the year! The Chiefs' initial score came on consecutive doubles by Stu Beswick and Josh Davidson to go up 1-0. Later, after Jared Coordes reached on an error and advanced to second base, he was promptly plated by a Josh Sukeena single to right. The last score came on a line drive home run by Jared Coordes which hit the top of the fence and bounced over. The Chiefs managed only five total hits led by Josh Sukeena with two hits, and Jared Coordes' home run!
